IKE’S ART
DRAW SOMETHING
05.07.12 / by Ike
The most important part of my phone is definitely the video camera. I’m all about capturing random scenes and sounds and people. It’s like taking notes on what I eventually want to film seriously. When I’m just fooling around, my favorite app of course is Fruit Ninja. It’s the perfect outlet for the frustrations of a candy maestro with some fruit baggage! Maybe I’m a little late to the party but when did everyone start playing “Draw Something”?? I never liked Pictionary that much because it just stressed me out to have people screaming “garbage truck!” “birthday cake!” “dentist chair!” while I’m trying to draw a birdcage. In “Draw Something”, an app that is great on its own or fun to play with friends through Facebook, there’s no time limit so the sketches can be pretty elaborate and artistic talent actually shows. Plus, there’s no competitive element except with yourself to amass points for unlocking extra colors to draw with. The more rounds you play with someone, the more you get to know each other’s style and get into like a guessing groove. You get serious insights into someone’s personality too - whether it’s someone you know or even just a stranger you meet through the game. I met “HickBoyle” playing last night and he or she drew some hilarious stick figures and some really rad fruit cartoons. Always great to come across another fruit artist. After playing the free version enough, I realize that you end up with a lot of repeat words…you get sick of drawing “cry baby” and “marching band” over and over. It’s worth it to pay to upgrade - you get sooooo many more words. The only bummer is when LOSERS out there looking for a cheap way to earn coins just write the word. I mean, c’mon people! This is a rare chance for straight-up fun. Don’t ruin it.
